Octopuses

This is a review by Amir Shrinivasen in the London Review of Books of  Other Minds: The Octopus and the Evolution of Intelligent Life by  Peter Godfrey-Smith.

Octopuses are highly intelligent but their evolutionary journey is about as distant from ours is any other creature on earth. Consequently, their physiology and their intelligence is the nearest thing to an alien that we will ever encounter. They are a truly wondrous creation.

Having read this, I don’t think I’ll ever eat an octopus again.
