I have arrived in Venice by car, train and boat; the boat was a sailing yacht and we berthed in the marina that sits under Santa Maria Maggiore with the best view in the city - without doubt. This year we arrived by plane - my little microlight rather than Easyjet - and landed on the Lido where there is a fully functioning (grass) aerodrome with a 1920's Art Deco terminal building that Mussolini must surely have used.
We flew across the lagoon...
To Choggia
And down the edge.
And as close to Venice as allowed (there is a restricted area immediately above the city).
Over the Lido aerodrome and landed over the masts of a tall ship heading out to sea
On the way out I got in touch with Venice Marco Polo (the grown up airport) and they were cool with me sightseeing from the air over Burano
And Torcello.
It was a beautiful day.
