Gabriel Garcia Marquez said that people have three lives - public, private and secret. But Jimmy Savile had no private life - no girlfriend, children or friends in the normal sense of the word. He had an abnormally public life and what we now know was a perverted secret life - the private bit on the middle was missing almost entirely.
That should have been a red flag flying - but, of course, he hid in plain sight.
