Elton John and Bernie Taupin

Elton John and Bernie Taupin have had a creative relationship going back over fifty years. It is extraordinary in many ways - not least in the creative process. Apparently they meet in a studio and Taupin hands over the lyrics which Elton John has never seen before. There and then, a song is created. They have never done it any differently.

They started together writing songs for Tom Jones, inter alia. They weren't any good at it and they were told by a bored studio to go off and do their own thing.

Elton John is amazed how it works. How, he asks, does something so creative come out of the cooperation between a gay who lives in Windsor and collects porcelain and a cowboy who lives in Arizona and collects guns?
