Demographic destiny (2)

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about the potential impact of robotics and how this had the capacity to invert all the economic suppositions of the advantages of a young population. In it I gave an example of a restaurant in America where tablets have taken the place of waiters in taking orders.

Things happen fast. There is now a restaurant in Tokyo which now has no waiting staff at all. The menu is on a touchscreen. The food goes directly from he kitchen on a conveyer belt and they go back empty by the same method. The bill is calculated by empty plates.

This will be the crucial economic, social and political issue of the next twenty years.
